An Old Friend & a New Website

Today I went on a short little run and got to stop and see an old friend from high school.  We played soccer and ran track together in high school although she graduated a year ahead of me.  Anyway she currently coaches in Virginia and was at JMU for a track meet.  It's funny how small the world is!  Well we both agreed...Virginia beats Maine when it comes to weather and neither of us miss the cold and snow.  It was nice to see an old friend and teammate but strange to be at a meet again.

I just discovered a new website today.  It's called jog.fm and basically you can find music to match your running pace.  What a great idea!  You put in your mile pace and voila...songs to match.  I haven't actually tried it yet but I think I'll have to put together a playlist based on their recommendations or search though some of the playlists that other people have uploaded to the site.  There are also tabs for walking and cycling so you can find music for that too.  What will they think of next?

Post Half Pic

Marianne just posted this pic on facebook...the only picture of me on the day of the half.  I think it sums up how I felt post race pretty well.  I don't recommend plopping down on the couch immediately after the race...soreness is an understatement.

5k for Autism Awareness

Yesterday morning we did a 5k for autism awareness out at EMU.  It was cool and rainy and the course was kind of hilly but I had fun.  Not only did we get a free t-shirt and free bagels from Panera, we got to run for this little guy:
The funniest part of the whole event was when they announced that none of the roads had been closed for the event!  I couldn't believe it but it was through a residential area and we only saw a few cars along the whole course.
Here we all are, a little sleepy pre-race but ready to run.

Springtime = Happiness

Spring is in the air and there is nothing like running in the perfect spring weather.  Warm sunshine and a cool breeze makes for the best running weather, and going for a run is a great excuse to get outside and enjoy!
Yesterday Marissa and I went for a 3.3 miler through campus and it was so beautiful out.  To top it all off I finally got back on the arm/ab train and we did about 25 minutes of arms and abs in the apartment when we got back.  Of course I was struggling which led to laughing and my abs feel it today.

Today is another warm and sunny day.  I wish I had time to get out for a run later today but with work to get done, a fundraiser to attend, and a birthday to celebrate, it's looking like I'll have to wait for another beautiful day.

Fran's First 10K

This past weekend I unofficially ran the Ukrop's Monument Avenue 10k in Richmond with Emily and Francine.  I hadn't signed up because I wasn't sure how I would be feeling after the half last weekend so I ran without a bib.

This was Francine's longest race so far and she did awesome!  She finished in 54:06 and did a super job sprinting at the end.  I know you have a half in your future Fran :)  Way to put that injury in the past and make an awesome running comeback.  I'm so glad you're back in the race!
Looking good Fran!

Also a shout-out to Em for setting a good race pace and for hosting us.  Oh and the fact you are even considering doing a 50k is pretty inspiring (or is crazy a better word?) even though you are an awesome athlete and competitor!

If you're looking for a really well run event with a great atmosphere and funny costumes I highly recommend this one.
Check out the bowling ball and bowling pins!
